Vision to Goal Setting
What is our Vision for Learning?
The Plan started with our Mission: The Cleveland School mission is to provide an environment that fosters the emotional, social and physical well being and the intellectual development of all students. Cleveland School will promote a positive self concept, respect for self, respect for others, respect for the environment, fitness and health. We then wanted to capture the true identity and culture of our school and its community.
The Planning Team includes teachers, support staff, school administration, and parents. The team met throughout the 2021-2022 school year.
Many unique aspects of the school repeatedly came into our discussions. Among them are:
- the extensive and welcoming library at the centre of the school (undergoing renovation right now)
- our First Nations welcome carving
- our extensive Physical Literacy program for all students
- the outdoor play, work, and classroom spaces
- our Band and Strings program
- our students’ access to French Immersion and English programs
- the extensive volunteerism in the school
- the vey involved Cleveland Parent Advisory Council and the work the members do
- a range of sports and after school activities
- our two gyms, and the access the physical education they provide
- the variety of out of class learning experiences provided daily
- the forests surrounding the school
- our courtyard and magnificent Dawn Sequoia
- our students’ access to technology
- our on-site out-of-school-care facility
- our salmonid program
The Planning Team spent considerable time looking to identify and define our school culture, within a framework and understanding of what were our ‘biggest hopes’ were for the plan.
With alternate learning spaces being identified as a key element of our vision in our School Plan, we felt it only appropriate to use the TREE analogy as a framework to house the words that our community feel are the best descriptors of the school.
Planning & Implementation
What is our Action Plan?
The planning process was conducted over the 2021-2022 school year.
The team highlighted three areas to focus onÂ
a) giving all members of the diverse Cleveland community equal value
b) discovering and grewing our personal strengths
c) expanding our positivie relationships
Therefore, our Vision and our Goal statements were crafted to embrace these three objectives:
Vision:Â Every member of the Cleveland community has equal value in a vibrant learning community by focusing on a personâs strengths and expanding positive relationships. Cleveland Elementary School is a safe place to share our strengths which leads to increased academic, social and cultural engagement.
Goal: At Cleveland School we focus on treating all community with equal value, engage in activities to learn and develop our individual strengths, and engage in purposeful activities to build positive relationships.
Our three Objectives were formalized to read:
Objective 1
Intentionally engage every member of the school community by spreading kindness, caring for others and contributing to the common good.
Objective 2
Every member of the Cleveland community focuses and brings with them their talents, passions and what bring them joy in a world where everyone belongs and plays an essential role in our inclusive environment which allows us to enjoy learning and growing together.
Objective 3
Learn specific skills to discover and develop positive relationships.
Monitor Evaluate & Adapt
What are our Indicators of Progress?
In order to monitor and evaluate our goal and its three objectives, we have created a Reflection and Feedback loop. In relation to our three objectives, this reflection and feedback loop included the following evaluation points.
Objective 1 Reflection and Feedback: Cleveland School does and will continue to schedule into the school calendar, programs and initiatives that support this objective. Student and staff surveys will be conducted to evaluate the degree to which we are treating everyone with equal value.
Objective 2 Reflection and Feedback:Â We are able to monitor the Core Competencies reflections and activities that students complete to find evidence of their progress in identifying and developing their own strengths.
Objective 3 Reflection and Feedback:Â Thanks to second step we are able to assess how much students are learning about the discovery and nurturing of the positive relationships.
